Congratulations to Father John
who celebrated the 37th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood on Wednesday, May 26. The Emmaus Pastorate is so blessed and thankful for his time, talents, compassion, and care, and very blessed to have him in our lives.

THE ROSARY:
On Sundays during the month of May, to honor our Mother Mary, St. Mark Parish prayed the Rosary before Mass. Thank you to all who joined in to offer this powerful prayer.

There is power in prayer and comfort in knowing others are praying for you or a loved one. NCYC Mother’s Day Cupcake Bouquet FUNDRAISER UPDATE -
Wow! Our Emmaus Pastorate students baked, frosted, assembled, and sold over 1500 cupcakes for this event! What a success! Thank you to all who supported this fundraiser as the students are working on raising money needed to cover their trip to NCYC in Indianapolis! PASTORATE BAPTISM CLASS—It is the practice of the Emmaus Pastorate that parents expecting their first child participate in a baptism class. The next class is scheduled for July 21 at St. Joseph, Elkader. If you have an upcoming baptism, please join us. Classes are open to all parents of the Emmaus Pastorate.

NEW PARISH BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY - Have you heard about the newest ministry in the Emmaus Pastorate—Parish Bereavement Ministry (PBM) which is a program that will provide support to those experiencing the loss of a loved one? It is a 13 week program that will be offered twice a year, the first one started April 22, but anyone is welcome anytime. ST. MARK STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
JOHN UHAL
Pastoral Associate, Director Evangelization, Liturgy, Music
Have you ever wondered who this amazing singer is at Mass? Do you know that singing is just one of the many talents and duties he has within the Emmaus Pastorate? Read on to get acquainted!
Hey there! My name is John Uhal, and I have the privilege of being the Pastoral Associate for the Emmaus Pastorate. I assist our parishes in three realms. On the faith formation front, I work with the other DREs to coordinate our K-12 and adult programming, I teach the confirmed students at St. Joseph, and I'm a resource to anyone needing a deeper understanding on church teachings. Regarding liturgy and worship, I select much of the music we use at Sunday, wedding, and funeral liturgies. I ensure musicians are present at each of those liturgies, and sometimes I have the pleasure of singing and playing at St. Mark and the other parishes, too. I also help Fr. John make liturgical plans, especially for special prayer services and celebrations like Christmas and Triduum. Also, in the digital realm, I manage our website (www.vibrantcatholic.com) and The Emmaus Pastorate's Podcast and all their content, create the Sunday Mass you hear on KMCH, edit and post Fr. John's weekly check-in, create some of our Facebook posts, and help with various technological issues that arise in our offices.
Born and raised in Dubuque, IA, I graduated from Wahlert Catholic High School, majored in Pastoral/Youth Ministry and Liturgical Music at Saint Mary's University of MN, and received an MA in Liturgical Ministry at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. After finishing at CTU, I worked for three years at All Saints Parish in Le Mars, IA, the Ice Cream Capital of the World! When my position there was eliminated, I went unemployed for a year until I ran into Fr. John Labor Day weekend 2018. We chatted, and eventually I was asked to join the staff here!
My wife, Patti, is a junior high math teacher in Postville, and together we have two kids. Angela just turned six, and Michael is 3 1/2. We live at the Parish House at St. Joseph and could not be more thrilled to be back in northeast Iowa! Patti's originally from Rochester, MN, and being close to extended family is so great for us! Thank you for having us here. It truly is a blessing for me to minister to St. Mark and the whole Emmaus Pastorate!

This year's First Communion Students had the honor of "Crowning Mary". This beautiful tradition was carried out at the beginning of Mass on Sunday, May 2.

Starting this fall, our K-12 Faith Formation program will have co-directors, Brooke Kerns and Jody Kerns, sharing this position as Brooke learns the ins and outs of our Faith Formation program. We are very appreciative of both gals for sharing their time and talents in this position! Watch for more information about these two as we get closer to fall classes.

May 16, 2021 ELECTION RESULTS:
Newly elected Pastoral Council members include Joyce Anderson and Tom Bunting.
Newly elected Faith Formation Board members include Nathan Erickson, Jenny Lange, and Amber Wessels.
The Parish Life committee will be welcoming Annette Knipper and Lynn Lueken in as new co-chairpersons. Mary Fisher and Barb Hansel will be turning the reins over this summer. Both of these ladies deserve a huge THANK YOU for the many years of service to our parish as leaders of the Parish Life Committee. There will be a parish life committee meeting in June to make some plans for the rest of the year. Watch the bulletin and your email for date and time!
