A Message from Steven Kessler, a Seminarian from St. Joseph for the Archdiocese of Dubuque
Our days here at St. Pius X (SPX) Seminary are rather full. We have morning prayer and Mass and evening prayer, Monday through Friday. We have a weekly session that covers different aspects of priestly life and human formation. On Mondays and Tuesdays, we have adoration followed by night prayer and one of us gets to lead. On Saturday mornings we also have public adoration at Loras in Christ the King Chapel followed by morning prayer and Mass. One of us serves, not only Mass, but
assists the priest with adoration as well. Each week there is a team of three that leads prayer, serves Mass, and reads during Mass. These three rotate through each, and the teams change every week. There are also three pairs of guys who cook our evening meal–one pair for each Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. We use this to learn how to make healthy meals and to also promote the communal aspect of the seminary. On Wednesdays we have a very talented lady come in and prepare our evening meal. Not only is her food great, but she also teaches us different aspects of making healthy meals and food safety. We do all of this as well as being full-time students at Loras. All of us are majoring in philosophy. The reason for this is so we will be better suited for our theology studies at major seminary. Some guys are still in traditional college and have second majors. Six of us, myself included, are college graduates who are seeking a second degree. We are classified as pre-theology. We thank everyone for their support and prayers, and humbly ask that you continue to give them. Guided by the example Jesus gave us and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we all hope to serve God and His most holy church. ~Steven
