Father John was honored in the annual Edgewood Rodeo Parade in celebration of his upcoming retirement. Children could be seen jumping up along the parade route shouting and waving, "Father John!" "Hi, Father John!" We wish him a happy, healthy, enjoyable retirement.
St. Mark
Family Swim Night
will be on Wednesday, July 16, at the Edgewood Swimming Pool from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Everyone can swim for free and enjoy free snacks during the evening. Even if you don't like the water, come down to watch the swimmers and enjoy some conversation. In previous years, a serious "Daddy Diving Display" broke out and you sure don't want to miss that! Remember that the summer is half over and this is the time to make some good family memories!

When you are tending your garden, remember St. Mark’s FAMOUS RODEO CHICKEN DINNER, and if possible, donate some extra peppers, carrots and especially cabbage!
The dinner will be August 16!

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
will be collected starting July 20th through August 3rd! Book bags, tissues, notebooks, colored pencils, and note cards are all useful as the students head back to school next month. Look for the tub in church to place your donations in. Thank you in advance!!

Faith Formation
We had a great week of Community VBS, "Road Trip-On the Go With God!" We learned how God is with us wherever we go and learned Bible stories about how God is there when we are joyful, lonely, and when we go off course. The kids spent their days doing stories, crafts, games, and music! We went to the Edgewood Convalescent Home & Lincolnwood Assisted Living to sing the residents and finished off the week with a program at the park!
New this year, we also did an extended Catholic VBS for the 1st-5th graders! The Catholic kids stayed for 1.5 hrs after the Community VBS. Jane Christiansen did a wonderful job getting a few helpers to serve the children lunch, and then we went into a power hour of learning. This year’s focus was learning more about the Eucharist and how we live more like Jesus after we receive him in the Eucharist. The 1st graders loved using the wooden Mass kit and organized and played Mass for me. This was not part of my lesson, but it was beautiful, and they enjoyed it so much! To finish off our 3 days, we had a children’s Mass where all 28 children had a ministry! It was fun trying something new this year! ~ Brooke Kerns

BAPTISM CLASS
The Emmaus Pastorate offers a baptism class, which parents are required to attend one of four throughout the year, before a child is baptized. The next class is scheduled for August 13 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Parish in Elkader. Please call John Uhal at the Parish Center at 563-245-2548 or simply email him at j.uhal@dbqarch.org to register. Preregistration is recommended, but not required. Want more information?
